Braking checks with a clear purpose

Do not ignore a change in braking
Squealing, grinding or vibration through the pedal can make every stop feel uncertain. Pulling to one side, a soft pedal, dashboard warnings or a longer stopping distance also need proper attention. At our Hull workshop, we inspect the braking system to establish what has worn or failed. Checks may cover pads, discs, calipers, hoses, fluid condition and associated components. We look for the cause of uneven or abnormal braking rather than assuming every noise needs the same repair. Measured wear and component condition guide our recommendation, helping us restore controlled braking without replacing unrelated parts.
Repair the cause before damage spreads
Worn pads can affect discs, while a sticking caliper may create uneven wear and excessive heat. Dealing with the cause promptly can prevent further damage to connected parts and restore balanced operation. We explain what our inspection shows and which repair is suitable for your BMW. Once the agreed work is complete, we carry out relevant functional checks before the vehicle returns to normal use. That may include checking pedal response, warning indicators and how the repaired components operate together. If another issue could be affecting braking behaviour, we make that clear rather than treating the symptoms in isolation.

Frequently asked questions
Why are my BMW brakes making a grinding noise?
Grinding may indicate severe pad wear or contact with another brake surface, although inspection is needed to confirm it. Avoid putting off the check, as continued use can damage related components and affect braking performance.
Do new brake pads always require new discs?
Not automatically. We assess disc thickness, surface condition and wear alongside the pads. If the discs remain suitable, replacement may not be needed, but damage or wear outside an acceptable condition changes the repair scope.
What can cause my BMW to pull while braking?
Uneven pad wear, a sticking caliper, tyre condition or suspension issues can contribute to pulling. We inspect the relevant areas and use the vehicle's behaviour to identify where the imbalance is likely to begin.
